Reserved Seats

In every programme, certain number of seats is reserved for the candidates belonging to various reserved categories. The percentage of seats reserved under various categories is given below.

Seats remaining vacant in SC/ST category shall not be filled by candidates belonging to any other category.

Reservation for candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC), if any, would be notified on the websites of IITs, as and when the Government orders for the same are issued.

A candidate who seeks admission under SC/ST/OBC category must submit, along with the Application Form, the requisite certificate issued by a competent authority as specified in Appendix-II, failing which his/her candidature for admission will not be considered under that reserved category.

Appendix-II

AUTHORITIES WHO MAY ISSUE SC / ST / OBC CERTIFICATES

SC/ST/OBC candidates should submit a certificate issued by any of the following authorities (Certificate issued by any other authority will be rejected):

District Magistrate / Additional District Magistrate / Collector / Deputy Commissioner / Additional Deputy Commissioner / Deputy Collector /1 st Class Stipendary Magistrate / City Magistrate / Sub-Divisional Magistrate / Taluka Magistrate / Executive Magistrate / Extra Assistant Commissioner / Chief Presidency Magistrate / Additional Chief Presidency Magistrate / Presidency Magistrate / Revenue Officer not below the rank of Tehsildar / Sub-Divisional Officer of the area where the candidate and / or his / her family normally resides / Administrator / Secretary to Administrator / Development Officer (Lakshadweep Island).

For PD candidates, any category of disability (viz., blind or low vision, hearing impairment, locomotor disability or cerebral palsy), benefit will be given to only those candidates who have at least 40% permanent physical impairment in relation to a body part/system/extremity/ whole body, etc. Such candidates must submit, along with the Application Form, the certificate of disability from a Government Medical Board and should be fit to pursue the programme. The candidates selected for admission under PD category will also be required to be certified by a Medical Board, duly constituted by the Admitting Institute for admission.

Note:

• The provisions for the reserved seats given above are subject to modification in accordance with any Government order, if issued subsequently by the Government of India.

• It will entirely be the responsibility of a candidate to prove his/her eligibility for admission in terms of minimum educational qualifications, etc., and for claiming reservation under a specific category.
